Polyphenylene dendrimers with perylene diimide as a luminescent core.
A novel synthesis is presented of a fourfold ethynyl-substituted perylene diimide dye 4, which acts as a core molecule for the buildup of polyphenylene dendrimers. Around the luminescent core 4, a first-generation (5), a second-generation (6), and a third-generation (7) polyphenylene dendritic environment consisting of pentaphenylbenzene building blocks are constructed. The dendrimers 5 and 6 a...
متن کاملAssemblies of perylene diimide derivatives with melamine into luminescent hydrogels.
We report unique and spontaneous formation of hydrogels of perylene derivatives with melamine. The luminescent gel network is formed by H-type aggregation of the perylene core, supramolecularly cross-linked by melamine units. As a result of controlled aggregation in the extended nanofibers, strong exciton fluorescence emission is observed.
متن کاملPerylene Diimide as a Precise Graphene-like Superoxide Dismutase Mimetic
Here we show that the active portion of a graphitic nanoparticle can be mimicked by a perylene diimide (PDI) to explain the otherwise elusive biological and electrocatalytic activity of the nanoparticle construct. Development of molecular analogues that mimic the antioxidant properties of oxidized graphenes, in this case the poly(ethylene glycolated) hydrophilic carbon clusters (PEG-HCCs), will...
متن کاملPolyphenylene dendrimers as scaffolds for shape-persistent multiple peptide conjugates.
The present work describes synthetic concepts for the coupling of peptides to polyphenylene dendrimers (PPDs). Novel functionalized cyclopentadienones have been synthesized whose Diels-Alder cycloaddition with various core molecules leads to polyphenylene dendrimers possessing (protected) amino or carboxyl groups. In addition, the resulting functionalized molecules exhibit the characteristic sh...
متن کاملElectron Delocalization in Perylene Diimide Helicenes.
We report two new helicenes derived from the double fusion of an acene with two perylene diimide (PDI) subunits. These PDI-helicene homologs exhibit very different structural and electronic properties, despite differing by only a single ring in the link between the PDI units. The shorter inter-PDI link brings the two PDI subunits closer together, and this results in the collision of their respe...
